The Next Best Thing to Having A Housekeeper

I feel like I should have posted something these past few days. It's not that things aren't happening, this mind of mine is working over time. Too bad it's working over time thanks to the overwhelming amount of paperwork I have to get done by the end of the month. I go to bed thinking and making  lists of what needs to be done the next day, waking up and feeling out of sorts because I can't remember all the things that I had on my list. But I thank God that I have a job and the hubby doesn't. He has turned into a wonderful househubby. He can now do a load of laundry correctly AND fold it, he can clean, vacuum, run and empty the dishwasher. We are now working on his cooking skills.
I was the mom who taught all the sons how to cook. It came in handy when they were in college especially when they would meet a girl who wanted a home cooked meal. They were pros at the art of microwaving and George Forman grills.
 Hubby is different.
I think it's because he knows I will be coming home and will make something, anything so that there is dinner on the table.
However lately due to the overwhelming amount of stress at work, all I want to do is crash when I get home. So I have encouraged hubby to take over the cooking of the nightly meal. Don't get me wrong, he can make a great chili, three way spaghetti, chili cheese coneys, and he has mastered how to make green beans, potatoes and ham in one pot.
But there are some dishes that seem like a no brainer to me, are just too hard for him. Take grill cheese sandwiches. He asked how to make them. I told him how to butter one side of two slices of  bread, put cheese in the middle, throw it on the grill, and cook both sides of the sandwich.
I forgot to tell him that the butter side of the bread goes on the outside, not the inside.
Today is a cold, rainy day so dreary that made me looked forward to a pot of chili simmering on the stove when I got home. On the drive home, I kept thinking about about how I just knew hubby made dinner already and that I could go home, take two aspirin for a headache that has plagued me all day, eat and sleep.
Instead I came home to the smell of Eric's grilling lingering in the air but nothing to back up the smell since he had taken what he had made to work. Hubby had laid something out for dinner, ham steaks. Yes he knows how to bake them, but he doesn't know how to make any of the side dishes meaning I would still have to cook.
After some whining and complaining  discussion, hubby is now making a huge pot of chili.
Yes I can get use to having him home all day..........

6 Nice Things to Say:

He'll make someone a wonderful wife someday!
My husband is a good cook, but a complainer about it. He and I both work, but both feel exhausted when we get off work. But then I have to do laundry or housework, which he will only do grudgingly and not well. So sometimes if he doesn't volunteer to make the meal and I'm worn out and busy with housework, then it's a fend for yourself kind of night.
Congrats on that pot of chili!

Proper training takes a while. Sounds like he's on the right track!

PS: Thanks for the larger type!

I'm glad you taught your sons how to cook. All the women in their lives thank you.

Thankfully my husband LOVES to eat so when he moved out on his own in the 70's he learned how to cook. He got sick of Mickey D's so called his mom and she sent him recipes. He would make Sunday dinners for all his friends and those guys would bring the beers. He asked his mom for pots and pans for Xmas one year and she cried. She thought he was gay. Too funny. But it was 1974...a different world.

I am thankful too because my hubby can really cook much better than me and fine dining type foor to simple food. He makes a mean grilled cheese with 2 cheeses and Prosciutto! YUMMY.

I saw the "buttered the wrong side" issue coming as soon as you said he couldn't make grilled cheese! Men are funny. How nice he's been picking up the tasks that you ordinarily do. Hope they lighten your load at work soon.
